| Activities for Students, Teachers, and Community Members to Study the Facilities and Resources in their school:
If you are interested in participating in any of these activities, please notify us so we can help provide any necessary support. Selected work submitted to Teaching to Change LA will be posted in the online journal on December 14th.

Put your school to the test with our school report card survey, available in English and Spanish. |

Respond to the following prompts:
a) What types of school facilities does each California student deserve?
b) What learning resources do you need to do well in your school? |
| 3. |
Design a school that meets the requirements that you stated above regarding what every California student deserves. What would this school look like? Be sure to point out the difference between your "ideal school" and your current school facilities. |
| 4. |
Write a letter to your elected officials and your local newspaper describing your schools facilities and educational resources. In this letter, be sure to include suggestions for improving these conditions to meet higher standards. |
| 5. |
Borrow some digital cameras from Teaching to Change LA and photograph your school facilities and/or educational resources. Images can be powerful artifacts to document your schools situation. |

| Teaching to Change LA contains resources for teachers and students to begin exploring and researching educational equity issues across California. The idea for this interactive website came from the Students' Bill of Rights, a list of 10 rights all California students should be entitled to in order to receive a high quality education. This list of rights is in response to a class action lawsuit, Williams v. California, that was filed by the ACLU on behalf of California school children receiving a substandard education.
Each month, Teaching To Change LA will focus on a different "right", providing resources and a space for a civic conversation for students, teachers, and community members to engage in dialogue around these issues. We encourage classes and community groups to engage in their own research around the Students' Bill of Rights and submit it to the journal to share with our electronic community.
We suggest you get started by reviewing the Students' Bill of Rights, questions and answers about the Williams case, comparing them to other Bills of Rights, located in our resources section. Additionally, you can engage in the same readings that teachers enrolled in an IDEA class are studying around these rights. This month we are encouraging students, teachers, and community members in asking questions to ACLU attorneys and other community members about what rights students deserve. You may post your questions on our interactive discussion forum.

| A new structure for TCLA
.
Over the next ten months, Teaching to Change LA will focus on facilitating a discussion on the idea of a Students Bill of Rights. Each month we will explore one of the ten rights through writing, dialogue and research by a diverse group of teachers, parents and students. In addition, each week, we will update "the Latest" with news and happenings in the field of education.
We invite all teachers, students, parents, activists and advocates to become part of our discussion around a Students Bill of Rights. If you choose not to participate, we hope that you will return to visit our site and remain abreast of the thoughts, ideas, permeating teachers, students and parents in the greater Los Angeles area. |
