The truth is that teachers are providing the education for the future of our country.

SB: There is a high percentage of uncredentialed teachers in California. Does this matter?

PB: It does matter [that some schools have high percentages of uncredentialed teachers]. It matters because we’re talking about the future of our country and that’s not lip service. The truth is that teachers are providing the education for the future of our country.

Unfortunately, in our society, what we value is what we pay for. So we send a very strong message to teachers when we ask them to be professional and do not pay a professional salary.

The quality of education today will determine what the United States will be tomorrow. We want teachers to be dedicated and committed to children; to think about school and plan lessons on weekends and holidays; to improve their practices; even to pay their own money to buy extra materials. Unfortunately, in our society, what we value is what we pay for. So we send a very strong message to teachers when we ask them to be professional and do not pay a professional salary. We tell them that the California school system does not pay enough to have the resources for some children.
